LOS ANGELES -- Farmers Insurance is rewarding one lucky Kasey Kahne fan with keys to a new car.
Kasey Kahne (Farmers Insurance)
As NASCAR's top drivers take to the track in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, fans of Kahne and the No. 5 Farmers Insurance Chevrolet can chase their own dreams of that new car smell by entering the Farmers Insurance Start Your Engines Sweepstakes.

Fans can play for a chance to win $35,000 towards a Chevy at HendrickCars.com, and other fun prizes.

The eight week contest runs through November 15, 2012. Simply visit http://FarmersPickAKey.com and select a key off the wall to be automatically entered into the grand prize drawing. If the engine starts, you'll win an instant prize -- a $25 or $50 certificate good towards Kasey Kahne gear at the NASCAR.COM Superstore.

Five instant prizes will be awarded daily. Fans can enter once per day, every day -- the more you play, the better your chances of winning.

"The best part of this sweepstakes is no one goes away a loser thanks to some hilarious consolation prizes," said Erin Freeman, chief communications officer for Farmers Insurance. "All players will unlock never-before-seen videos of Kasey in true Farmers humor -- one features Kasey driving backwards while speaking backwards."
Once unlocked, fans can share these videos on their personal social media pages. To hear the backstory on this sweepstakes from Kahne himself, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2gKEcZtj4U

Farmers No. 5 car driver Kasey Kahne, the Farmers No. 5 show car, Extraordinaire hot air balloon and cheering crowds set the scene for the annual Be a Hero for Babies Day pep rally, where employees and volunteers gathered to support the March of Dimes.

“An event like Be a Hero for Babies Day really speaks to the power of the work we do both as individuals and as members of this great organization,” said Head of Operations David Travers. “Once again, the Farmers family came together to support the March of Dimes — and with fantastic results.”

March of Dimes Chair of Trustees LaVerne H. Council also spoke at the event, praising Farmers’ passion for the cause.

“It doesn’t take millions of people to make a difference, but a few who really believe in the power of change. And that’s exactly the kind of people that Farmers agents and employees are. I feel blessed,” she said.

This year, Farmers raised an astounding $2.5 million for the March of Dimes.

Shalini and Shane Wootstruck, parents of the 2012 March of Dimes Ambassador Kieran Wootstruck, 6, was more than appreciative.

A Farmers Insurance Twitter hash-tag will be featured on the bumper of NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne's car during Saturday night's race at the Texas Motor Speedway. The decal, using copy "#Farmers5", will also appear on his helmet, as well as on the pit wall at the racing stadium in Fort Worth, TX. Kahne drives a No. 5 Chevrolet for the Hendricks Motorsports team.

Part of the racing circuit's popular Sprint Cup Series, the event will be nationally televised on Fox, creating a TV-Twitter branding combo for Farmers. Kahne is currently the 31st ranked driver in the months-long competition. The effort builds on an ongoing relationship between the racecar driver and the brand.

"We want to connect with Kasey Kahne's fans to understand what's on their minds and become a part of their community," Ryon Harms, social media director at Farmers Insurance, told ClickZ. "We want to connect with TV viewers, people at the actual events, and the people who wish they were there. The effort definitely crosses the offline-online barrier in using Twitter."

Farmers Insurance Donates to School for Homeless Children in San Diego

When asked why we work with Farmers Insurance versus other insurance companies, there's a lot of ways we can answer that:  quality of the products, superior level of customer service, excellent agent training to better serve the client.

Then there's also our commitment to the communities we serve.  The following story, to me, says it all.

This is why we sponsor the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, and make it a fundraising opportunity.  (on Facebook)

Reprint from Farmers Insurance (February, 2012)

Agents, district managers and employees joined Southern California State Executive Director Charles Dabelgott in downtown San Diego as he presented a check for $100,000 to the Monarch School, a one-of-a-kind facility in the United States that’s open to homeless children in the San Diego area. The donation will go into the capital building fund, which will be used to double the size of the school.

Just over 150 homeless children attend grades K through 12 at Monarch, and many go on to college and trade schools. Farmers’ donation will allow the school to double attendance to over 300 homeless children.

During the groundbreaking, which was attended by more than 400 supporters, Monarch School President Ronne Froman asked Dabelgott, who is also a Monarch School Board member, to come forward for the check presentation.

“Supporting Monarch School through our partnership with the Century Club (Farmers Insurance Open) exemplifies Farmers’ commitment to giving back to the communities.” said Dabelgott.

Also at the ceremony, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders said all of San Diego supports the Monarch School and praised the faculty and students for working so closely and producing futures for all the children that attend. He was joined by three San Diego Council men and women, the board of Education, representatives from Senators Diane Feinstein’s and Barbara Boxer’s offices and other major fundraisers and supporters.

The new building is set for immediate renovation and will open this Fall.

Laura White, vice president of Development at Monarch School said, “It’s because of generous donors like Farmers that Monarch School is able to break ground on its new campus, which will allow us to serve more than double the current student population. We are so grateful for all that Farmers has and continues to do for Monarch School and the homeless youth of San Diego.”

“The educational and life-skill opportunities that the Monarch School provides for children in unstable environments embodies the values the Century Club and Farmers share in supporting San Diego charities,” said Peter Ripa, executive director of the Century Club. “This groundbreaking will allow more children to realize their potential in the classroom and in life.”

March of Dimes 2012 National Ambassador Announced

Reprint from Why Platinum:

Farmers Insurance, and its employees and agents, have remained one of the largest supporters of the March of Dimes year after year.  The March of Dimes leads the fight against the effects of premature birth, a struggle many families face.

March of Dimes 2012 Ambassador, Kieran Wittstruck,
 visits United Airlines Headquarters.
Recently, the 2012 Nation Ambassador for the March of Dimes was announced...

Kieran Wittstruck lives near Seattle with his mom, Shalini, and dad, Shane. Kieran turns six in March, and he's pretty excited about it. However, when he was born, reaching even his first birthday looked to be a challenge. Born at 31 weeks, he weighed about 3 pounds.
Kieran was placed in the NICU, and during his 31 days there he and his family overcame many challenges. "Never did Shane and I think of pregnancy as a life-or-death event," explains Shalini. "Thankfully, Kieran came home with us."
Kieran Wittstruck visits Fox News for interview.
With Kieran healthy at home, Shalini looked for a way to give back. As an employee of Cigna, she has co-chaired Cigna's Seattle March for Babies team since 2007. And now this year, her bright, outgoing boy, Kieran, will serve as our 2012 National Ambassador — traveling the country on behalf of the March of Dimes.

Farmers Insurance & Facebook's CityVille: Free Stuff

Reprint from Blog.games.com

Zynga ensures CityVille fans new decorations with Farmers Insurance

CityVille Farmers InsuranceZynga likes giving its players a sense of security free stuff. We know that, and you know that. And Farmers Insurance certainly knows that--in fact, it's joining in on the fun. The Farmers Insurance headquarters has appeared in CityVille along with a very simple goal that will lead to some hopefully interesting rewards. All right, so there's no big Farmers Insurance reveal just yet, but believe us: It's a comin'.

Simply find the new Goal on the left hand side of the game screen, and follow it to place the new, massive (and heavily branded) building in your city. Then, click on it once to complete the structure. Now, here's the tricky part. Airship Update: Farmers Zeppelin Reaches Oklahoma on National Tour

reprint from NewsOK.com:

Zeppelin Makes Oklahoma City Stop

The Farmers Airship, also known as the Eureka, made a stop in Oklahoma City on Monday. The 246-foot, 14,000 pound airship has been touring the country for the past six months, and is set to return to its California home about three weeks from now.

The Farmers Airship, also known as the Eureka, travels at an altitude of 1,000 to 1,500 feet, and is capable of speeds up to 75 mph, but typically travels at 35 to 40 mph.

Unlike hydrogen-filled airships of the past, this zeppelin is filled with helium, a nonflammable, lighter-than-air gas. What separates a blimp from a zeppelin is the rigid frame inside the ship, which means that it holds most of its shape even when emptied of gas and the engines are mounted on the side and the rear of the ship, rather than the cabin.

“We like to say, ‘We don't fly. We float,'” said David Finney, guest services supervisor for Airship Ventures, the California company that owns the airship.

It’s never been easier to register to donate bone marrow—an act that could make the difference between life and death for cancer patients waiting for a transplant.

Be the Match is a national bone marrow registry where doctors go to find donor matches for patients awaiting bone marrow transplants. Farmers kicked-off a national campaign to promote the registry with our thousands of employees, agents and district managers by hosting a blood drive and on-site bone marrow registry on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Farmers Insurance Home Office. The event was facilitated by City of Hope, a leading cancer research hospital in Los Angeles.

See my previous blog about the City of Hope honoring Farmers Insurance.

In honor of CEO Bob Woudstra’s recognition by City of Hope’s National Insurance Industry Council as the 2011 Spirit of Life Award Honoree, Farmers is sponsoring registration for the Farmers team.

Platinum Elite Assists Future San Diego Charger Girls Squad

San Diego Charger's Salute to the Military Opening
 Ceremony, 8/11/11.  Courtesy Sheryl Roush

With tonight being the first preseason San Diego Chargers game, it now feels official that the lock-out is now over. Here's a look back at our blog from during the days of uncertainty...

*************

Excerpt originally from Why Platinum?
While the NFL Owners and Players work on their next labor agreement, trying to avoid a lock-out, the Women of the NFL are already hard at work.

The Charger Girls, Ambassadors of the City of San Diego, serve all year round making about 300 public appearances a year, helping charities like Susan G. Komen (cancer) and Make-a-Wish raise money, visiting childrens' hospitals, and promoting the San Diego Chargers organization.  This includes recent promotional visits as far as China, Hong Kong, and Mexico City.

It also means countless hours preparing, rehearsing, and developing their dancing and speaking skills.  Like the player, time spent on the field is a fraction of the real hard work they commit.  And their training camp opens first.

Early April every year, a new squad of twenty-eight is chosen.  With the league's future schedule unknown, the Charger Girls are already moving "full steam ahead", waiting to be called upon.

The Charger Girls' commitment to San Diego reaches beyond the playing field at Qualcomm Stadium. For instance, the Charger Girls have a tradition of pre-season visits to local military bases. The picture above was taken last year during an appearance for the U.S. Marines.  The soldiers always enjoy taking the visiting cheerleaders on a tour of their base.

2010 - 11 San Diego Charger Girls at QualComm Stadium

Click HERE to read a recent SignOnSanDiego article about what it takes to be a Charger Girl.  It covers a lot of the questions people have about the hours, the hard work, the pay, the physical requirements, the fans, and the thrill of performing before thousands.

What the public doesn't know is about the network of individuals who work behind the scenes to make sure the Charger Girls are ready gameday.  Dance instructors and coaches.  Hair, make-up, and wardrobe.  Fitness trainers and nutritionists.  Photographers.  Public relations and marketing.

Where does the Platinum Elite come in?  We'll get there.

One thing the Charger Girls have, that many cheerleader squads don't have, is a team of volunteer speech coaches who help the Charger Girls refine their public speaking skills.  Lifetime dancers and performers, many are new to the world of public relations.  Through practice they gain even more confidence to perform before thousands.  It is during this time with their coaches that the Charger Girls get what's for many of them their first time answering media questions in front of a live video camera.  They practice where its safe to rehearse, surrounded by their "team-family".   The speech team is led by internationally-known, professional speaker & trainer, Sheryl Roush, and her organization, Sparkle Presentations.

Kevin Tuckey with
 Visiting Charger Girls
As one of those volunteer speech coaches in my spare time, and a Farmers Insurance Agent with the Platinum Elite during the day, it seemed a natural to enlist the Charger Girls with some of our Farmers / March of Dimes fundraisers.  On two occasions the Charger Girls have helped us raise over $15,000.00 total to help in the fight against the effects of premature birth.  The picture to the right is from a recent Golf Expo we held at Riverwalk Golf Club on January, 8th, 2011. See previous blog.

This year Sheryl Roush, and Sparkle Presentations, was asked to meet with the 75 semi-finalists competing for the final 28 spots on the squad.  Step One of the audition process started with 452 hopefuls.  The 75 finalists whose dance skills qualified then moved on to work with Sheryl Roush to refine their public speaking and media skills before interviewing with San Diego Chargers Officials and advisors.  After that, those 75 compete by dancing one more time before becoming the Final 28. Quite a five days for everyone involved.

Click HERE for the results of who has made the Charger Girls squad for the 2011-2012 San Diego Chargers' Season.

So, how did the Platinum Elite apply to these try-outs?  Platinum Elite Founder, Donald Swanson, graciously volunteered his Platinum Training Conference Room to Sparkle Presentations for three days of interview and media practice for some of those 75 hopefuls before they enter the final stage to make the finished team.   Each applicant will represent herself the best she can in her interview.  This is a brand new step in the process this year thanks to the donation of Don's facility & Sheryl's valuable time.  Everyone involved is sure it will add to the overall confidence of every member of the Charger Girls' squad for years to come.

Sheryl and her other coaches will then meet again with the Final 28 to continue their work once the squad is chosen and training camp opens.

When the players return to the field, the Charger Girls will be ready to do their part.
