On Thursday, May 12th, 2011, the Platinum Elite Group sponsored the "One Round. One Cause" Golf Tournament benefiting the fight against Parkinson's held at Maderas Golf Club.
The Fundraising tournament was organized by Russell Meyerowitz and the MEYROW Foundation. For more information on The MEYROW Foundation's "Journey with Parkinson's", click HERE.
Platinum Elite members who helped with the event included: Don Swanson, Monica Shingara, Cynthia Marmolejo, Terry Snow, Kris Avram, Karen Rout, Jasmine Guerrero & Kevin Tuckey.
A highlight of the event was an appearance by the Farmers Insurance Hot Air Balloon sponsored by the Platinum Elite Group. Several raffle winners had the opportunity to go for short rides in the balloon to get a bird's eye view of Maderas.
Farmers Insurance has two hot air balloons, usually one for each coast. Another thanks to our pilot, Tim, and his crew Tom and Blake, for traveling and helping us out. Tim travels all over the country for appearances at various Farmers and March of Dimes Events.
The Basket is taken off a trailer and assembled pretty quickly. The balloon itself is packed up into a very small, compact bag.
The balloon is spread out and attached to the basket while on its side. A large fan inflates the balloon. Not safe to turn on the burner yet.
Once inflated by the fan, the propane burners are lit. The hot air lifts the balloon quickly off the ground.
Once the winds calm down as the sun sets, tournament quests who win the raffle can ride the balloon two at a time.
