X-Men: First Class - New Farmers Commercial Unmasked

Farmers Insurance is beginning a promotion with the new X-Men movie coming out on June 4th, 2011. Beast, one of the characters from X-Men: First Class, appears in the new "University of Farmers" themed commercial...as a new insurance agent. Kind of a student exchange program of sorts.

The series of commercials stars J.K. Simmons of the recent Spider-Man movies (J. Jonah Jameson) playing Professor Nathaniel Burke. He's already comfortable appearing with Marvel superheroes.

Outside the Office: Susanne Romo's First Art Show

Normally you wouldn't expect to find information about an art show on an "insurance" blog. But this blog is about community involvement, schools, local charities, and the people who make up the Susanne Romo Agency.

It's not about deductibles. It's about people.

On May 21st, 2011, Susanne Romo, Farmers Insurance Agent and member of the Platinum Elite Group, held her first Art Show Opening. Susanne has been a fan of photography for many years and has always taken pictures for her personal enjoyment. With this showing she's taken her hobby public.

These photos were taken the night before during the set up and preparation so we'd have more space. The photos are on display during business hours for one month at:

Monica's is located in the University Heights area; corner of Park and Adams. It's a great little cafe / coffeehouse with a home feel. Very different than the corporate chain coffeehouses. In addition, they serve food.

This month art show opening was attended by more than 30 of her friends and associates, along with Monica's regulars, and friends of the other artists also showing their works. Some paintings, others sculptures. All in all, Susanne was very pleased with the experience and I sure she will do this again.

When she's not taking photos and exercising her artistic side, Susanne is assisting her clients in protecting and growing their assets.

On Thursday, May 12th, 2011, the Platinum Elite Group sponsored the "One Round. One Cause" Golf Tournament benefiting the fight against Parkinson's held at Maderas Golf Club.

The Fundraising tournament was organized by Russell Meyerowitz and the MEYROW Foundation. For more information on The MEYROW Foundation's "Journey with Parkinson's", click HERE.

Platinum Elite members who helped with the event included: Don Swanson, Monica Shingara, Cynthia Marmolejo, Terry Snow, Kris Avram, Karen Rout, Jasmine Guerrero & Kevin Tuckey.

A highlight of the event was an appearance by the Farmers Insurance Hot Air Balloon sponsored by the Platinum Elite Group. To see our first time bringing the balloon to San Diego, that time for the March of Dimes, click HERE. Several raffle winners had the opportunity to go for short rides in the balloon to get a bird's eye view of Maderas.

Farmers Insurance has two hot air balloons, usually one for each coast. Another thanks to our pilot, Tim, and his crew Tom and Blake, for traveling and helping us out. Tim travels all over the country for appearances at various Farmers and March of Dimes Events.

The Basket is taken off a trailer and assembled pretty quickly. The balloon itself is packed up into a very small, compact bag.

The balloon is spread out and attached to the basket while on its side. A large fan inflates the balloon. Not safe to turn on the burner yet.

Once inflated by the fan, the propane burners are lit. The hot air lifts the balloon quickly off the ground.

Once the winds calm down as the sun sets, tournament quests who win the raffle can ride the balloon two at a time.

Parkinson's Golf Tournament at Maderas: Kris Avram & Terry Snow

On Thursday, May 12th, 2011, Terry Snow and Kris Avram, both Farmers Insurance Agents within the Platinum Elite Group appeared as sponsors at the Maderas Golf Club for the "One Round. One Cause" Golf Tournament benefiting the fight against Parkinson's.

Several dozen golfers enjoyed the day at Maderas playing a "Shamble" style tournament. They got to stop by the 10th hole to see Kris and Terry for refreshments.

Every visitor to the Terry & Kris' Platinum Elite booth were entered into a raffle for a Date Night raffle prize including dinner at a Brigantine Restaurant and movie tickets.
